Barack Obama for President

Just heard that John Edwards will drop out today. He will announce in New
Orleans, same place he started in campaign. I really wish he could have been
our nominee, but I guess it wasn't going to happen this election cycle.
Edwards' biggest contribution has been the fact that he has really focused
on the issues that matter [corporate power/corruption, and the illicit nexus
between politicians and corporations]. I was telling my brother last night
about how in countries like India and Pakistan, politicians just take the
people's money and keep it. Everybody knows about it, nobody is able to do
too much about it. Unfortunately, that is a more honest system than we have
here in the US.

Here, politicians start wars, divert tax-payer funds to private corporations
as a means for paying for those wars, get people to actually "support" them
in the "war effort", and then go to work for the corporations and take the
money themselves. Some democracy. Anyway, Obama it is then, although I get
the nagging feeling that he wins he will not necessarily do anything
groundbreaking, he will probably just be a decent, competent President [in
the mold of Bill Clinton]. Edwards would have been the man for
groundbreaking stuff.
