Obama statement on Edwards

I was hoping for Edwards/Obama 08. Maybe Obama/Edwards won't be all that
bad? And even after a two-term Obama presidency, Edwards would be about 63,
by no means too old to run for office.

Edwards

I just caught the last 10 minutes of Edwards' campaign-ending speech. I
don't consider myself to be moved easily, but seeing him with his family at
the end almost made me cry [almost].

Barack Obama for President

Just heard that John Edwards will drop out today. He will announce in New
Orleans, same place he started in campaign. I really wish he could have been
our nominee, but I guess it wasn't going to happen this election cycle.
Edwards' biggest contribution has been the fact that he has really focused
on the issues that matter [corporate power/corruption, and the illicit nexus
between politicians and corporations]. I was telling my brother last night
about how in countries like India and Pakistan, politicians just take the
people's money and keep it. Everybody knows about it, nobody is able to do
too much about it. Unfortunately, that is a more honest system than we have
here in the US.

Here, politicians start wars, divert tax-payer funds to private corporations
as a means for paying for those wars, get people to actually "support" them
in the "war effort", and then go to work for the corporations and take the
money themselves. Some democracy. Anyway, Obama it is then, although I get
the nagging feeling that he wins he will not necessarily do anything
groundbreaking, he will probably just be a decent, competent President [in
the mold of Bill Clinton]. Edwards would have been the man for
groundbreaking stuff.

SOTU

Last bush state of the union, and 70% of the country breathes a sigh of
relief [the other 30% are hopeless]. If you were to bring a guy from, let's
say, Poland, and tell him everything that has happened in our country at the
hands of Bush since 2001, and then show him this speech, he would think that
Bush was satirizing his two terms as President.

Ridiculous AT&T

I've been with Cingular for 4 years. I loved it. Cingular is now called
AT&T. I just upgraded my phone. I ordered a new AT&T Tilt Smartphone. I
received it 4 hours ago. It was not able to read the SIM card and hence not
able to make or receive calls. I went to the AT&T store. They told me they
didn't have any Tilts there so I had to call and get an exchange by mail. I
called. After being shuttled around departments, I finally get the right
person. She tells me I have to pay for the phone again, and then when they
receive my old phone they will credit the amount back. This for a phone that
was broken before it arrived. I said no way, she said that's the only way
it'll work, I told her to shove it. Well, politely.

Retards. I really do think anything with the AT&T name attached to it is
destined for doom.

The Internet

Some of you may remember this little gem from 2007, the year of subprime:

"The Internet is not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. You people are
clogging the tubes with your enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts
of material! Why, just the other day, my staff tried to send me an Internet,
and it got tangled up with the enormous amounts of material, enormous
amounts of material!" - Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska)

Iowa

Edwards came in second. While it's not the end of the world, and its still
possible to eke out an Edwards nomination, it's definitely a lot more
difficult without the momentum that an Iowa victory would have brought. I'll
be moping around all day. Obama is just too naive and his non-anger really
does highlight the fact that he's never been victim to a right-wing
smear-bulldozer yet. And yes he's the press darling right now but just wait
till the general when all the GOP media tools will fall in line and he won't
know what hit him because he thought that the media was his friend. This
media is never any dem nominee's friend.
